A Little about us

Deb and I first met in Wodonga in 1968 at the tender age of 11 and 12, Wodonga being my home town. Deb and her family moved to Wodonga on an Army posting. So you might say we have grown up together. I joined the Army at 17 and embarked on a military career for the next 20 years. We married in 1974, and spent the next 10 yrs in various posting around Australia, by some strange twist of fate all three of our children were born in Wodonga. We have three great kids (now adults) and four grand kids with another one on the way. In 1984 we returned to Wodonga and spent the remaining 9 yrs of my military service in various posting in the area. By 1993 I had completed 20 yrs service and having had enough of the Army life, an opportunity came my way, through an ex-military friend to take up a position with the company he was working with, in the window furnishing industry. In 1997 on a holiday to Brisbane, Deb was offered a position and transfer with Myers. Having promised for many years to move to Brisbane so that Deb could be closer to her family this offered the leverage and incentive for us to move, so we sold up and moved.

Our bike interests

I first started riding motorbikes as a teenager, mostly because it was a cheap form of transport, and continued to ride until my late 20s, deciding in Perth after a few mishaps that it was safer in a car.

My interest in bikes was rekindled in 1990, heading to work one morning I saw a motor bike and trailer heading in the opposite direction, although I didnt know it at the time it was a Gold wing. I can remember seeing this monster and thinking how great it looked. A few days later Deb and I were at a friends place and happened to mention this huge bike I had seen earlier in the week, to be told that it belonged to his brother who had been touring and had calling in for a visit. He then proceeded to tell me about the Gold wing. From that day I wanted to own one, unfortunately it took until 2002 to eventually get it, a 92 model, Phantom Silver Grey 1500 Aspencade. Since then we have enjoyed countless kilometers of fun and travel, Deb has also gotten her bike licence, something she has wanted to do since she was 16, after a number of trial bikes, including a GL1200 Wing, she has settled onto riding a Suzuki Volusia 800, which she loves. In May 2008 whilst having the wing serviced in preparation for our next little adventure, a trip to Townsville for the Ulysses AGM, I looked in on the current GL1800s on display and by the next day was the owner of a new 1800 wing.

Both Deb and I continue to enjoy the many and varied rides and social events with the Wingers and Ulysses, we have travelled many roads with friends and will continue to do so for as long as we can with both old and new friends. We both look forward to the rides with the wing group and the friendships that have formed within this group.
