The Editor Writes…..

Hello All

I’ve been experiencing some confusion in relation to our meeting points for our northbound forays.  The one BP servo has been in the past referred to as BP Burpengary (where it used to be), BP Morayfield (where it actually is) and BP Caboolture North (what it calls itself).  This refers to the relatively new pair of BP Servos either side of the highway just north of Burpengary.  It might be best if we all refer to the one on the Northbound side as BP Caboolture North as that is what it calls itself.  Conversely the one on the southbound lanes is called BP Caboolture South.  The names are derived from the direction of travel rather than the locality.

According to my latest UBD, BP Caboolture North is actually in Morayfield and BP Caboolture South is in Burpengary.

Confused yet?

Contributions for this magazine can be emailed to info@auswingriders.com or posted to 47 Breslin St, Carina, Qld 4152.  Photos and slides can be scanned and returned.

The Secretary’s Desk

Hi Everyone,

It’s that time again – Christmas Parties, and ours is here!  Thanks to Lionel & Mary, Ray and I made a reconnaissance trip up to Noosaville last Sunday and checked out our venues for both accommodation and dinner for the week-end of 27/28th November, and I am delighted to say that they both exceeded our expectations.  So, apart from enjoying a great ride and company, we can look forward to doing it with all of you who are coming along.  For those who cannot make it this year, there is always next year.

Please check our monthly minutes report and make sure we have your names correctly, and take this opportunity to make-up your group for the unit.  Any queries please contact me on 3366-7288.

Keep safe – love this beautiful rain during the week.  Keep it fine for our rides!

Valerie.

The President Speaks……

What a great meeting this month.  25 Goldwings in the car park and I’d say the most people we’ve ever had at a meeting.  It was great to have visitors from the Sunshine Coast.  The sight of all those wings later at coffee was just as good.  I’m sure Maccas enjoyed it as well, even though they had almost completed their clean-up and had to go through it again.  Although short-handed on the night, they managed the rush and will keep an extra hand on for next month.

Following the discussion on trailer wiring the other night, I did a bit of follow-up on the issue of feedback problems caused by trailers.  It appears that the issues go way back to the GL1500 as well.  Apparently, there were so many problems originating from the wiring harness being modified to accommodate trailer harnesses, Honda itself issued a service bulletin and apparently had an isolator unit available.  The problem was not necessarily feedback just from the trailer and could likely be related to poor workmanship.  Poor quality connections, rubbing and bared wires, broken wires from poor fitment and flexing all contributing to damage to the Wing’s electrical componentry.

Well, it’s time for me to strap Daniel’s cricket bag to the rack, fire up the cricket taxi and take Dan to his game.  Well, that’s not quite true, Daniel usually has the wing ticking over nicely by the time I get organised.  Always last minute, sorry Clint.

Why do the task today when you can savour the anticipation and do it at the last minute tomorrow.

Ride safe and keep the shiny side up.

Bevan

Rusty & Maree’s ride

Since I have to write my own ride report you will have to expect that I thought it was a bloody good ride for those that attended.  Not knowing that I would be writing this we also did not take pictures.  So, for the future, when setting out your ride on a fine day maybe take some photos then, because your ride day might not be as fine.

We met at BP Morayfield northbound 8:00am for our 8:30 start.  All arrived early and it was pleasing to get 13 bikes for our run even though 4 of them were not club members.  So we left for Morayfield through some dozen traffic lights, turned left in Caboolture on to the D’Aguilar highway, up to Wamuran, then left up Campbell pocket road (where at times I thought we might get wet) to the top of Mt. Mee, then right along that range back towards and through Woodford to the Peachester turnoff.  Then along that road until we took the Bellthorpe turn-off.  Up that range until we reached the Maleny road and turned left into Reesville.  We continued on until we reached the Maleny-Witta Road which we took, then headed for Maleny & Mary Cairncross Park for smoko.  What a great view, coffee & company.  By this time we had lost our two ring-ins as they must of had trouble keeping up without Goldwing Power.

After smoko we headed for the Landsborough road, past the road works.  Down the Bald Knob range until we took the Peachester road into Peachester then down the range to Beerwah in which we took the old-old Bruce highway through Landsborough, Mooloolah, Eudlo, Chevallum, Forest Glen & up Mons road to Parsons Road until we reached Maroochydore Road.  At this point we were to turn right and take Ti Tree road to the left, but with a last minute thought for everybody’s safety, I made a last minute change and went left on Maroochydore Road and then right into Eudlo flats road some of you may remember this part it was DIRT!!!!!!   I know.  (By the way it has its advantages not having a CB radio at times).  Then on to Kiels Mountain Road to Palmwoods and then the Woombye Pub for lunch. Maree and I were spared the extra 90km. round trip to take you all back to the BP.

Thank You  all for making it worth doing for that kind of turn up.

Rusty & Maree

I didn’t take photos so Here’s one of a Goldwing in Alaska and one of what everybody’s face probably looked like when we hit the dirt. - Rusty

Fasta Pasta.

HOT HOT HOT.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A very hot group of 12 riders set off from the BP at Goodna for a short ride out to Andy and Donna’s for afternoon tea. Many thanks to Donna and Andy for the nibblies and drinks. While waiting for Turbo and Jason to arrive, Winston quite happily fed the dog cheese, you can imagine the results.

When we left Andy’s the temperature still had not dropped so it was another hot ride to Fasta Pasta at Redbank. Once we had all ordered and settled to our tables the only thing to do was ‘drink, be merry, and try to sort out who ordered what when the meals and garlic bread came, Good fun.

After the meal it was suggested that we go for coffee at Mt Cootha. Turbo & I went back to Annette’s’ (Madam Rat) place for her 40th Birthday. All in all a good time was had in spite of the heat.

Victorian Ride

10 Oct 04

The weather forecast was for a 23 degree day and the day turned out to be just that, left home not sure of how many wingers would turn up for the ride due the Bathurst car racers, riding alone today as my navigator and photographer  had to be somewhere else hope I don’t get lost.

Nine Goldwings and one BMW left for the ride. We headed around the ring road to the Tullamarine freeway and out on to the roads towards Tooborac, this time of year the country is looking great with the wings wand up and taking the corners beautifully what more could you ask for, maybe a bakery for some food, we stopped in Heathcote for morning tea and some coffee and pies etc. Russ had to leave us at Tooborac as he had to work in the afternoon.( Donut trucks on the road on a Saturday morning should be banned)

Mobil Service station Start point

After the break we headed for Kyneton, Malmsbury, Daylesford, in between Heathcote and Kyneton, Derek on his first run on the 1500 felt a wobble in the rear and discovered the joys of a flat tyre, having only owned his wing for a very short time Derek had not got around to joining Honda Assist or RACV this called for Tim to come the rescue with some compressed air after three canisters it was enough to get him to Kyneton, with Marg and Jeff being the locals and knowing the area helped Derek to the service station for some much needed air. The rest moved on to Malmsbury were one of the ladies was seen running back to the bike with some shopping, saying some thing about John won’t notice. John B you will have to invest in a trailer for the next run.

After a break in Malmsbury to wait for Derek and after some time Tom & Maureen decided as they lived close to Derek they would go back and assist him get his bike home with the help of Jeff and Marg, Derek’s bike was delivered back to Melbourne that afternoon.

Special thanks, to Tim, Jeff and Margaret for their help and Tom and Maureen for assisting Derek to get back home on the day.

After the break we headed to Daylesford for lunch after finding a parking spot we found a cafe and ice-cream shop next to each other what more could you ask for. (Out the door went the diet)

Daylesford for lunch

After lunch at Daylesford

After a good lunch we decided that time had got away and that we would cut the ride short and head straight home from Daylesford.

As riders peeled off to there home locations so ended another great ride with good company and good riding.
