Hello All
A quiet magazine this month. Not many items from you all. I can only put together what I’m given and internet jokes just don’t cut it anymore, we’ve all read them before in our Inboxes. I think I’m on my third receipt of the jokes that go around and around ad nauseum. And the less said (and done) about chain letters the better!
It is interesting to note that all AWRA members now have internet access and can keep in touch by website and email. Mailout of the magazine is only to those who have printer difficulties. The less printing we have to do the better.
Contributions for this magazine can be emailed to info@auswingriders.com or posted to 47 Breslin St, Carina, Qld 4152. Photos and slides can be scanned and returned.

The Secretary’s Desk
Hi Everyone
Just finished our minutes, and now I must get this letter away to Clint to keep in the good books. Especially as we are staring our new year in our official capacities! We seem to be getting busier, and more new faces joining us – it is just great to see.
My assistant has been racing around on the wing this week, first was a service, and they had omitted to fix the faulty headlight. So back again the next day, and now tomorrow the Big Red has to be washed in reddiness for our trip to the Odyssey in Goondiwindi. Meanwhile, I am doing the important part of packing the bags, replacing toothbrushes and making room for the Scotch and my Southern Comfort. We are riding down on Saturday morning in company with Lionel & Mary and Mal & Tina. Meeting up with Bear & Jayne and Larry & Annette who I hope have stretched themselves across an extra couple of camping spots for us!
Finally – deposits have been taken for our Social Night at the Australian Woolshed, if there are anymore wanting to join us please ring me on 3366 7288 as I must confirm our numbers by 19th June.
Until next time, ride safely.
Valerie.

Someone we know at an AGA do. Thank goodness he doesn’t do this on AWRA outings |
Well, it's been a busy week but one that has been very rewarding. Don't you just love being able to look back and see how significant events unfold while having no relationship to one another.
Monday was our meeting, the first since the AGM. TJ from the Gold Coast HOGS, brought us up to speed on the Cassie Doyle ride. I think this is a great cause and I hope as many as possible will attend. I know, it's a shame it's on our ride weekend, but we didn't set the date and it only happens once a year.
Tuesday night saw the culmination of discussions and inspections with a mate Trevor, who, like us, is getting back into riding. We had a quick ride down to the Gold Coast and picked up his bike. Not a 'Wing but let's face it, riding is what's most important.
Thursday saw me finally get approval for a work project I have been developing over the past two years. It has cost me the second week of the Ulysses AGM holiday and a lot of grief and stress, but has now come to fruition. Don't you love it when a plan comes together.
I'm late again of course, as I write this, some of you are coming home from Goondiwindi, some from Coffs Harbour. I would have loved to be at the Odyssey but a planned wedding stopped that. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the wedding was cancelled at the last minute but by then it was too late to nominate and participate at Goondiwindi. Not wanting to go to Coffs left me at a loose end. What to do. Well, a trip to Montville and Mapleton with Trevor seemed like a good idea and it was an opportunity to introduce his wife to the joys of riding.
Being a long weekend, the traffic continually prevented any stretching of legs but it was still a pleasant ride. The ladies got in some shopping around the craft shops of Montville and on to the Mapleton Tavern for lunch. This is obviously a popular place and the wait for a meal was at least 45 mins. Over the road to the Pickled Lily, service was no quicker but it was definitely quieter. Just sitting there waiting for our meals and there it was.
Who would have believed it? Just sitting there in Mapleton at the top of the run down to Nambour when it comes around the corner from Kenilworth / Obi Obi and heads down the range. A couple of seconds, no time for a good look, no chance to talk to the rider, no chance for a photo if I'd had a camera, no chance for the uninitiated to even recognise that is was something very special. How special you ask? Well as I understand it, there are rumoured to be about 10 in Australia. Initially, there were only to be 1200 in the States, one for each Honda Dealer but it has now become a limited production motorcycle. I know that for those of you who haven't guessed you are asking what was it? It was a Valkyrie Rune. Cherry-red, chrome and beautiful. The question is where does it live and who owns it?
As I said, don't you just love being able to look back and see how significant events unfold while having no relationship to one another.
Keep the shiny side up

While the true ride was on Sunday after the AGM, it actually started on Saturday from the BP at Blacksoil. Unfortunately, due to a late starting and finishing soccer game, there was no way I was going to make the start time. I made a quick call to Wendy asking her to get the ride under way and that I would see everyone at Helidon. By the time Therese and I arrived everyone else was settling down and had apparently enjoyed the ride and looking forward to the spa and the festivities.

The meeting was held in the restaurant, which provided one of the best venues we have had for our AGM. I forget the actual numbers but memory tells me there was about 25 members present. Down a bit on the last couple of years, but still a large proportion of the members. With all committee members re-nominating for their positions and no other nominations, elections were over in no time. The meeting was followed by a great meal, socialising then a late night trip to the spa.

Sunday dawned with another spa for the keen ones before a great breakfast, some discussions on whether Turbo had actually gone to bed or spent the night in the spa and Rob was a Bear with a sore head. After breakfast everyone had to line up for the obligatory photo. This was a prolonged affair with the Helidon battery hoodoo raising its head again. Gecko's battery had given up the ghost and Clint's battery just offered a protest at being made work all night while he slept. Much pushing, shoving, encouraging words being spoken, a set of jumper leads and finally a phone call for help eventually saw all bikes lined up and inclusive of Eric's new quad bike, more commonly known as a wheelchair.

Following an animal photography session involving a donkey and a Bear, those actually going on the ride headed out to Gatton to refuel then onward via Atkinson Dam and numerous back country roads before rolling into Esk for smoko. The wares of the local bakery were enjoyed by all. Bill and Mary said their good-byes and headed back to the coast while the rest of us continued north then east on our way back to Mt Glorious.
|
|
|
Plenty of bikes on the road, must have been a reflection of the beautiful weather. Plenty of sports bikes on Mt Glorious as usual with the boys taking their usual care to ensure all other road users are left upset at motorcyclists in general by their general attitude toward safety and road rules. This was borne out as we closed on the top of the mountain to see the damaged bike and the rider still lying on the side of the road. Down the eastern side toward Samford meeting the ambulance on its way up to assist the fallen rider.
|
|
By the time we got into Samford, time was getting away and some of the crew were looking to head home rather than continue on to Woodford for lunch. A quick decision for a flexible ride and the Samford Hotel became the lunch venue. A relaxing lunch and everyone headed their separate ways.
Another AGM over and we can look forward to next year or even the Christmas Party.
Ride safe
Bevan

Could you please inform all members to be wary when parking vehicles at the back of the Australian National Hotel.
While I was at the meeting there on Monday some low life moron has attempted to break into my car. The moron used a screwdriver and forced it in between the door handle and bodywork, damaging the bodywork and handle.
Luckily for me he got no further, and the damage has been minimised.
I have an alarm and immobiliser fitted but as he didn't get the door open it wasn't activated.
This may have been a one off attempt, but the moron might prey on that area, be wary.
Thanks, Phil
