Returning home from work, a blonde was shocked to find her house ransacked and burglarized. She telephoned the police at once and reported the crime.

The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the radio, and a K-9 unit, patrolling nearby was the first to respond. As the K-9 officer approached the house with his dog on a leash, the blonde ran out on the porch, shuddered at the sight of the cop and his dog, then sat down on the steps.

Putting her face in her hands, she moaned, "I come home to find all my possessions stolen. I call the police for help, and what do they do?

They send me a BLIND policeman."

The Secretary’s Desk….

Gidday all,

It’s finally done, the September magazine and I will get it to you before the end of September.

Unlike our previous magazines, this one is being published while Therese and I are travelling and we are currently in Melbourne.

You will have to accept the lack of stories but I don’t have time to write all of them but where possible I have included extra photos of the events.

Next month I’ll give you a write up on Goomburra for those that couldn’t attend and maybe a summary of Therese’s and my travels through NSW and Victoria.  We have just under a week to go and we have already had just about every thing the weather can throw at us.

Today we were able to catch up with John Gilbert which was a change as it is usually him catching up with us in Queensland.

We will see you all at the October meeting.

Ride safe and don’t become a statistic.

Bevan

Hi everyone,

Another month has gone by and we are getting closer to Christmas. Yes, that’s right, by the time you read this there will be only a 110 days to go. Scary hey?

The great news is that weather has been great, and the temperature is warming up which is great for riding.

Mary and I love night riding too, and as we went past the thermometer on the factory at Ormeau on Monday night on the way to the meeting, it was a pleasant 19 degrees. No excuse not to ride now.

We have some great events coming up with the Goomburra weekend, a great ride in northern NSW in September, a navigation ride, Christmas party, and even a trip up to Bundaberg to watch the turtles hatch in February has been booked. There is something there for everyone.

I am making the trip to Phillip Island this year which is something I will be able to tick off my bucket list and I am really looking forward to the ride. Even though Clint is laughing his frock off, (he just rode over 6,000 ks in under 6 days), I am going to allow three days to go down, and maybe a bit more to come back. I like to see where I am going on a trip and enjoy the scenery.

Bevan & Therese are about to give their new 1800 and trailer a workout covering about 6,000 ks in two weeks, (see Clint, they like to look around too). I know what a great time they will have, and we all wish them well.

On a sad note, they are still lining up around southern QLD for their tickets to the morgue, and a few days ago a young man ended his life when he fell of his trail bike and kissed a tree in my suburb just 3 streets from my house.

We all need to take care and promote safe riding.

We’ll see you on the next ride

Keep it up

Bill Carter

Hello everyone,

All is quiet on my desk at the moment, but otherwise it is very hectic for us.

Thommo and I have missed the last couple or rides due to our family commitments and we are now really looking forward to the week-end at Goomburra.  It has been a rather long break between rides on our wing.

The stories in our magazine have been very enjoyable, thanks to you guys who have made our magazine such fun to read, and for making Bevan’s effort with editing that much easier.

We have welcomed a new member Peter at our last club meeting, and my apologies Peter for not getting around to saying hello, but I will catch you next time!  Also, have received a phone call from Barry Moore on Russell Island who is interested in joining our club, he recently bought his fifth Wing, a Bronze (you guessed it) another 1800.  So it is pleasing to have our membership expanding together with the volume of Wings riding on our roads.

Spring has sprung so let us look forward to long sunny rides ahead for us all.  Keep safe everyone and see you soon.

 Valerie and Thommo

Pot luck at Bill & Mary Carter’s home

It started at the club meeting when Phil was looking for a sucker volunteer to coordinate the club social in August. Even though just about everyone in the room was clamouring to get the gig, I used my Presidential privilege to secure the rights.

I immediately thought of a pot luck at our home. I might be dumb, but I’m not stupid. Given the opportunity to stay at home and have everyone come to me bearing food was a no-brainer. I have experienced the excellent cuisine prepared by the ladies and gents in the club before, and being a tooth man of note, I snavelled the opportunity to get home delivery.

That decision made, the only things left were to organise Mary to get the house ready for guests, and arrange the games to keep everyone occupied. Organising the games was dead easy as I happened to know that Phil and Vicki had Nude Twister, and Adult Trivia, and I knew that everyone would be keen to play. I thought that with a bit of luck we might even get a spot on movie clip of the day during the morning TV show on Channel nine.

gain an understanding of what should happen. With Mary hiding around the corner in a fire proof suit with an extinguisher at the ready, I even got it to light in its disassembled state. With that problem solved, I put it back together. It’s a shame that was the last time any heat, (with the exception of the heat from piezo ignition spark, and the matches I was using), emanated from this garden ornament.

Being the ever resourceful pyromaniac that I am, I decided to go up to Bunnings and buy a big bag of heat beads to burn in the Webber, and I lit them before I left to escort everyone to our home. I am sure that if we had sat outside during the night it would have provided plenty of heat to keep us warm. As it was the fire proved to be an absolute magnet for our dog’s toy when Winston threw it for Cindy to fetch. I was extremely impressed with Winston’s speed and courage as he went into the white hot Webber to retrieve the dog, and was able to extract her almost unharmed.

Even though I am aware that many in our club have a GPS on their bike, rather than have everyone travelling via Stanthorpe and Esk etc, (some of the stories about the routes a GPS can take you are amazing), I decided to have a meeting place at BP Stapleton and escort those that needed guidance. What an amazing light display we made as the convoy headed down the highway. On arrival, with the help of two parking attendants, and three traffic cops we managed to get all of the bikes settled into our street.

It didn’t take long for the party to get into full swing and the scene was reminiscent of something between a Roman orgy and a feast at King Arthur’s table. There were lashings of fine food,

When Mary got the news that I had invited the club to our house for a pot luck was she excited. She said that this would be a great opportunity to give the house and surrounding suburbs a spring clean. I don’t know why because it looked OK to me.

Anyway as the old saying goes “happy wife happy life” and I agreed to help by staying out of her way. She did have a couple of things for me to do and after three weekends and enough water to lower the Hinze Dam from 96% to 92%, (only a couple of Sydney Harbours), we had the house ready.

As it was still winter, I decided to re-birth the outside gas heater that we had bought for Mary’s birthday to provide a little warmth. You would think that lighting a gas heater would be a simple task, but if it was difficult when it was new, it was virtually impossible when I got it out this time. Not to worry, using enough tools to dismantle the space shuttle, I managed to

copious amounts of wine and other drinks, and great company to share it with. The night was filled with great stories, (some of them true), hilarious jokes, and witty repartee. Everyone must have had a great time as the last ones put their clothes back on and left as the sun was coming up, (or was it a street light). I know we enjoyed ourselves, and can’t wait for the next one.

As I write this, it has been a couple of weeks since the event and the neighbours are starting to talk to us again. Their initial fright of being invaded by a motor cycle gang has subsided, and with the papers full of outlaw bike gangs coming to the Coast for Bike Week who could blame them.

Bill & Mary

A Queensland farmer got in his Ute and drove to a neighbouring farm and knocked at the farmhouse door.  A young boy, about nine, opened the door.

'Is your Dad home'? The farmer asked.

'Sorry mate, he isn't' the boy replied. 'He went into town.'

'Well,' said the farmer, 'Is your mum here'?

'No, sir, she's not here either. She went into town with Dad.'

'How about your brother, Greg? Is he here'?

'He went with Mum and Dad.'

The farmer stood there for a few minutes, shifting from one foot to the other and mumbling to himself.

'Is there anything I can do for ya'? The boy asked politely. 'I know where all the tools are if you want to borrow one. Or maybe, I could take a message for Dad.'

'Well,' said the farmer uncomfortably, 'I really wanted to talk to your Dad. It's about your brother Greg getting my daughter pregnant.'

The boy considered for a moment.

'You'd have to talk to Dad about that,' he finally conceded.  'If it helps you any, I know that Dad charges $200 for the bull and $150 for the pig, but I really don't know how much he gets for Greg.'

A 5th grader asked her mother the age-old question,' How did I get here?'  Her mother told her, 'God sent you.'

'Did God send you, too?' asked the child. 'Yes, Dear,' the mother replied.

'What about Grandma and Grandpa?' the child persisted.

'He sent them also,' the mother said.  'Did he send their parents, too?' asked the child.

'Yes, Dear, He did,' said the mother patiently.  'So you're telling me that there has been NO sex in this family for 200 years?

No wonder everyone's so damn grouchy around here.'

Historic Motorcycle Show

On 30th August 2008 the Historical Motor Cycle Club of Queensland held the Phil Irving Concours at the Yeronga State School.  Now I have a bit of an interest in old motorcycles and that must be noticeable as Charleen handed me the brochure a couple of weeks earlier and said “I thought you might be interested in this”.  And I was.

Beautiful day on Saturday and with the afternoon booked to do some yard work at my son’s house there was an opportunity to go to the concours if I took a long short cut to get there.

I’m not going to go into great descriptions of the bikes

or the day, I will let a few photos tell the story, but what an opportunity to see some bikes that I hadn’t seen before and some it was just great to see again and some it was just great to see.  Some examples; a beautifully restored 1928 Douglas that probably looked better than when it rolled off the show room floor; 1924 Triumph with a sprung pillion seat that may not make out co-riders envious but I’ll bet it was good for its day. Representatives of AJS, Panther, Matchless, Norton, Harley-Davidson, including a HD Aermacchi 350 single and Ariel singles and Square Fours, a ‘49 two pipe and a ‘53 four pipe model.  I love Ariels.  A few restored Indians and one that looked like it had had no lovin’ since it was made;  a candidate being prepared for full restoration.

Then there were the three LE Velocettes and to look at the way they were styled, one could almost imagine them to be forerunners of our GoldWings.  There was an assortment of outfits and later model Nortons, Triumphs, BSAs and and of course, with pride of place, a fantastic line-up of Vincents including a number of HRDs, a Black Prince and a speedway outfit.

The other part of these gatherings I like, a bit like a Ulysses AGM, is the parking area.  It is almost as interesting as the show, just to see what everyone else rides.  There in park was a beautiful, original, gold and with its four pipes intact Honda CB750K1 just like my first bike.  I couldn’t resist a photo.  A great way to spend a couple of hours and many thanks to Charleen for handing me the brochure the other day.  Enjoy the photos.   Bevan

Erectile Dysfunction

On my 60th birthday, I got a gift certificate from my wife. The certificate paid for a visit to a shaman living on a nearby reservation who was rumoured to have a wonderful cure for erectile dysfunction.

After being persuaded, I drove to the reservation, handed my ticket to the shaman, and wondered what I was in for. The old man slowly, methodically produced a potion, handed it to me, and with a grip on my shoulder, warned, This is powerful medicine and it must be respected. You take only a teaspoonful and then say '1-2- 3.' When you do that, you will be more potent than you have ever been in your life and you can perform as long as you want.'

I was encouraged. As he walked away, I turned and asked, 'How do I stop the medicine from working?'

Your partner must say '1-2-3-4,' the shaman responded. But when she does, the medicine will not work again until the next full moon.

I was eager to see if it worked I went home, showered, shaved, took a spoonful of the medicine, and then invited my wife to join me in the bedroom. When she came in, I took off my clothes and said, '1-2-3!'

Immediately, I was the manliest of men.

My wife was excited and began throwing off her clothes. And then she asked, What was the 1-2-3 for?

And that, boys and girls, is why we should never end our sentences with a preposition.

Toyama Highway Star Visit

Our friends from the Toyama Highway Star Club have sent some photos from the recent weekend when Geoff, Winston, Larry and Gecko paid them a visit.  I understand this was a great weekend and our guys really appreciated the hospitality of their hosts and the fact that they even lent their bikes for rides.

Things to ponder

·      How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

·      Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?

·      Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

·      What disease did cured ham actually have?

·      How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

·      Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours?

·      If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?

·      Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

·      Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway.

·      Why is "bra" singular and "panties" plural

·      If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?

·      Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane?

·      If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?

·      Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs!

·      If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

Natural Arch Ride

On 17th August Winston led us on a ride to Natural Arch then down to Cabarita Beach for a group photo and all the wings lined up on the grass looked really good.

From Cabarita we went through to Pottsville for lunch then headed back toward Queensland.

Just south of the border the group split with some heading home via Coolangatta and I believe some whale watching and others straight up the highway.

No full story exists and here are a few photos courtesy of Morag as I forgot my camera.

Bevan

Congratulations

Next month I will bring you the story of our Goomburra weekend but for those that were there, you will remember that there was some anxious waiting by Eric and Deb.  You will also remember that they left early on Sunday morning.

Well, this photo is the reason for the early return.

The newest addition to the Madjeric family, Lluca Madjeric.  She was what all the excitement was about.

Congratulations to the happy Grandparents.

Progressive ride

Back on the 20th July a group of us did a progressive ride or as it turned out, more like progressive grazing.  Again, I don’t have a story on this but I will give you a summary of the day and include a few photos of what went on.  We started with a tremendous morning tea with Larry and Annette then headed for Burpengary and lunch prepared by Eric and Deb.  What a lunch, there was so much food I wouldn’t be surprised if they are still eating left overs.  After lunch it was over Mt Mee and into Samford for a refuel, (of the bikes), then on to Clint and Charleen’s for afternoon.  A very enjoyable day.

This will be a navigation ride.  Riders will need a pen/pencil and maybe a pillion if they can read directions. :) Pillions make for more arguments and a lot more fun for everyone else.

You will also need a mobile phone in case of emergencies or if you miss a cutoff as you will need to ring Jeff for directions or you could miss out on smoko or lunch.

You will need to bring smoko as the planned stop has no facilities to buy anything.  As it is an individual event you could always stop and grab a bite at any spot along the way.

Lunch will be provided for although we would like an idea of numbers for catering purposes. Participants will need to advise at the meting on Monday 6th October or ring Jeff on Fri or Sat to confirm if they are coming.
